Poppit Sands Beach

Charming, pretty & on our doorstep

Poppit Sands Beach

Cardigan Bay Holiday Park lies just 300 yards from the beach with beach access via a well laid path.

Poppit Sands is a charming a place as the name suggests with its extensive natural sand dunes and boating jetties that perfectly frame this pristine sandy beach with views looking out to Cardigan Bay and Cardigan Island.

It is no wonder that Poppit Sands has recently been awarded the UK Seaside and Blue Flag awards. The stunning views here will literally take your breath away.

Poppit Sands is an ideal location to relax or enjoy a full range of water activities such as sailing, surfing, kayaking, boogie boarding and fishing and the beach is safe for swimming with lifeguards present during the summer months.

Poppit Sands is a dog-friendly beach with some restrictions applying during the summer months, there is a large area set aside for dog-walkers with strict rules on keeping the beach clean.

Beach safety

The beach has Blue Flag status and is also a sea-side award (Resort) winner, Life-guards patrol the beach from late June to early September, from 10.00am - 6.00pm each day, and bathing is safe within the patrolled area, marked by flags.

Water users are advised not to swim in the estuary to the south due to fast currents, but rather to stay at the main beach.

Facilities and access

There is a cafe and shop, located by the Poppit Sands car park and has been recently refurbished. It sells beach items like beach balls, inflatables, buckets and spades, and a limited range of body boards and wetsuits.

The main beach is accessed from a boardwalk next to the Lifeboat Station, and is suitable for disabled access.

You can travel into Cardigan, or Newport via “The Poppit Rocket", a local bus service which largely follows the coast road from Cardigan Town to Fishguard, and which calls at the Poppit Sands beach.
